Testing is helpful at three stages: To make sure compost itself has biology that is ready to serve your plant; to see what is already present in your soil, and after the compost has been applied to soil, to assure that the compost has indeed increased the population to the numbers necessary for your crop. Note: proper moisture and oxygen is necessary to keep the microbes in place.
